THE WORKING PROGRESS OF 'TRYP THROUGH THE FOREST'... 

Information to be added...

1 - The beginning, always the most difficult bit.It takes a few days to even get to this stage - sat down with the canvas knowing exactly where Im going to go with it and having the colours ready. These canvases are 7cm deep and 20cm width so I have to work on the sides too. I have never worked on a triptych painting with such a deep canvas before.

1                                                                    2  - finally! painting is underway, challenge begins               3 - blending the copper, deep red & red/brown, working on the sides too

4 - Mixing reds with 4 different browns, using heavy body acrylics to get a lovely texture

5 - Bottom half is done. Same colours as above but smooth instead of thick. This was a difficult task as the sides had to be blended the same as the front

6 - Few trees added. Placing them is difficult, I like a little perspective & symmetry whilst trying to also make them random!  The big trees have to be put in quickly to cut through the top texture

7 - Trees refined more and more added

8 - Trees also added on the sides so as you walk past the painting it will feel very 3D, like you are moving through the forest

9 - Starting to add a gentle light coming from the right

10 - Little more light added onto middle canvas

11 - Adding the light from the sides and having match at the front too was difficult

12 - Making sure the light is gentle and fades out towards the left

ULTRAVIOLET

For this painting I used the deepest darkest purple and blended it with an irridescent medium. It had an ultraviolet affect on the colour, especially where it pops out of the black, not to mention how luminescent it is in the right light

This painting represents US and the world WE create. I believe there are two types of people in the world... those who are brave enough to 'do', and those that don't see the point in doing anything. This painting is for those like myself who volunteer their time, the ones who speak out on behalf of those who can't, the healers, teachers and lightworkers, those that see the bigger picture and help to heal conflict in the world regardless of what others are doing.

The black, red and green represent the conflict, hate, greed, jealousy and the other colours are beacons of light coming out, all colours of energy, levels of conciousness coming from our centre

SOUL LAND

 

Inspired by the Dagara peoples living in Burkina Faso came my painting Soul Land. For the Dagara group, their home land where they grew up is an important part of their culture; it is where their soul belongs hence the name ‘Soul Land’

 

After researching the Dagara wheel, their shamanic traditions and the relationship with their environment based on animism, I found some beautiful writings through which came Soul Land….

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“Father of Bagre sends rain from the sky,

which falls and impregnates the mother of Bagre / Earth.

A tree is born and becomes the highway to Nangmens Residence,

In order for humans to reach Nangmens Residence they need the help of other creatures.

With the help of Badare / Spider they climb the tree to Nangmens house”

 

The blue spirals represent the rain from the sky falling and impregnating Mother Earth. You can see the lizards helping the water to feed the Earth.
The water weaves the web of Badare; the spider who can help humans to weave their own creativity and weave their own webs of fate.
They climb up to reach Nangmans residence using Badares ladder-like web by realising their own dreams and fulfilling their own potential.
Being fully in harmony with their environment and all its beings helps them to come back full circle again.

 

The middle of the painting, the swirling golden and bronze represents the earth as on the Dagara wheel. It represents ordinary reality of the everyday and non-ordinary reality used by shamans to see, to heal and to communicate between worlds

PROTECTION

 

This fish is one of the ugliest fish I had ever come across and had to paint it. It got me thinking that all the ugliness is all about survival . The fish itself could be warm natured and happy but we assume the worst due to its looks and its armoury.

 

As people we too can be ugly, we can put on a harsh persona and can lash out as a way of protecting ourselves from what we fear.

This painting was from a dream or a vision I had. I was deep in the ocean; I was scared until light beings came to assure me that I was okay. The feeling of being free, being loved and being utterly safe was overwhelming. The colours were beautiful and iridescent. I believe there is God or Spirit in everything, in the stars there are the star people, in the sky there is the Grandfather, on earth there is Grandmother and in the ocean there are the finned ones

This painting represents caves at the bottom of the ocean. You feel like you are hiding in a cave, looking out into the vast ocean, not knowing who is going to swim by. I enjoyed experimenting using beads and sand to build up texture. The colours represent the abundance of life surviving at such depths which is still a mystery to us humans
